If goodness exists, there is hope. —Rachael Denhollander

Rachel Denhhollander said this in her talk at the 2019 January Series at Calvin University. It reminds me of Jane Goodall’s Reason for Hope. In that book, Goodall says one of her reasons for hope is the goodness of people towards others that she sees. She tells the story of neighbors in a country in civil war, one on one side, one on the other—enemies. One of the neighbor families includes a woman who just had a baby. The other neighbor has a cow. The neighbor with a cow secretly gives the neighbor with a newborn milk every day. That neighbor risked his life to help someone who was supposed to be his enemy. That kind of goodness toward others gave Jane Goodall reason for hope.
