“Where is my super suit?”

Our pastor preached a sermon called “Soaring on Wings Like Eagles,” using Isaiah 40:27-31 and 2 Corinthians 4:7-9. It was a good sermon, and I recommend listening to the whole thing. (YouTube, October 30, 2022, scripture reading before sermon starts at 32:17). Near the end, Pastor Gil talked about:

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

~~Isaiah 40:28, 29

He said that when God “gives strength to the weary,” it’s kind of like a clothing exchange—you take off your coat, give it to God, and he gives you his coat in exchange. Then he compared this to superheroes—they put on their superhero costume and then use their super strength.

That—no surprise considering our family’s love of “The Incredibles”—prompted me to lean over and whisper to Randy, “Where is my super suit?”

We giggled, and Randy may even have snorted a little. But they were holy giggles…and the snort, too.

Praise God for the strength and power he gives to us, the sometimes weary. Thank God that:

those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

~~Isaiah 40:31
