First Canyon & Vermillion Cliffs

On our last full day in Gallup, we mostly packed up and got ready to leave, but we took a short hike in First Canyon, which is right at the end of Dan & Betsy’s street. The night before this last day, we had a scare when I went to the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning and there was no running water—the water froze. Fortunately, we had ordered a heated hose from Amazon and had it delivered to Dan & Betsy’s. We—that would be the “royal we,” Randy—attached that and we were fine again. I did help with my usual duty when Randy’s fixing something: I held the flashlight. Holding is my superpower. Remember that old commercial, “It’s Shake & Bake and I hay-elped [in a Southern accent]”? Well, “I hay-eld.”

Then we drove to Zion through the Vermillion Cliffs. What a good name for them.

First Canyon.

Randy told me to walk up the hill a ways for this photo. I’m super timid about walking off the main trail and especially up or down hill, but I tried to fake it for the camera. :)

There was a faint daytime partial moon in this shot but I am not sure I even see it. Look at that deep blue sky, though..

A part of the Vermillion Cliffs.

It looks like a flat path to the canyon but there’s actually a bit of a valley before you get there. Randy said it’s no wonder people would say the Indians rode off and disappeared.

Looking up.

Randy driving to Zion. Such a trustworthy, indefatigable driver.

Stopping to stretch and enjoy the view.
