This morning was our last day at the campground and it was a hot and sticky one. We slept in till around 8, then ate breakfast, and when we opened the door, discovered it was raining. AND it was 100% humidity! Oh my goodness. Our glasses fogged over. It was like steeping into a dishwasher.
Yesterday Randy, Pati, and I walked to the lake -- Lake Michigan. Pati said the day before it was quite calm, but yesterday you would have thought you were at the ocean. Pati and I went in to go for a swim. The waves were so strong I could not stand up. They knocked me flat and I scooted on my butt to the shore. Walking uphill in the sand was beyond me as well. My legs felt like noodles. It was beautiful, though. And fresh water is amazing.
Now we're back at Marj's for the night, then back on the road tomorrow. We went out for dinner with Marj, Charlie, and Dale. Daniel's Restaurant in Hesperia. Hesperia always makes me remember once when I joked to a co-worker at Calvin that "the hesperia are in bloom." She grew up in Fremont and very earnestly told me that Hesperia is a town near Fremont. I laughed and said I knew that, it was a joke. I got the distinct feeling she did not believe me.
Next stop: Mackinaw City, Mackinac Bridge. (
Two different spellings, but same pronunciation.)
